Maxtopexy with Local Anesthesia: A Safe Alternative

Introduction: Abnormal decrease in breast volume is a cause for concern for many women. Several mastopexy surgical techniques have been reported in the literature to correct ptosis without defining an ideal technique. In general, several anesthesia techniques are used for mastopexy, none of which are risk-free. There is currently a growing interest in performing outpatient procedures under local anesthesia. This paper reviews the evidence for the aforementioned procedure and presents the experience of the group for authors with 28 cases operated on in this hospital center.
Objectives: To update the bases of breast ptosis treatment with local anesthesia in outpatient surgery, and to demonstrate, based on accumulated experience, the possibility of performing this procedure without additional risks.
Methods: A retrospective and descriptive study was conducted, using J-closure mastopexy techniques, on a series of patients operated on by the same surgeon between 2021 and 2023.
Conclusions: Local anesthesia in mastopexy is a safe alternative. The experience found so far supports that it is a viable procedure to perform mastopexy in Cuba.
